How to use a post function to create a subtask depending on what field is selected.

I have a  created a post function using scrip runner to create a number of subtasks. At the moment when the item is transitioned to the next phase in the work flow all the subtasks are created. I only want the corresponding subtasks to be created depending on what option is selected. Can anyone help with this?
