How to see child issues and subtasks in backlog

Hi,

When I'm creating a subtask or a child issue for an epic (and classified it as a task) the created issue is not shown on the backlog. Is there a way to show it?

Are you working with a Company Managed project or a Team Managed project? Can you show us what you are seeing? What is showing in the Backlog if it is not showing child issues of Epics?

Child issues of an epic should show in the Backlog issue list.

Sub-tasks of any issue type, including Epics, generally do not show in the Backlog issue list because they are not prioritized or assigned to sprints independently from their parent issue.

Sub-tasks don't appear in backlogs because there's not a lot of use for them in the backlog.  They're not sprint items, and they can't be ranked (because they're part of a story and therefore have the same rank as their parent).  As the backlog is intended for ranking and creating sprints, sub-tasks are effectively just noise in it, they don't have anything to say about the sprint or the backlog.

You can get them displayed in context though - go to board config -> card layout and select "sub tasks" as one of the fields on your cards.  This will list all the sub-tasks of a story within the story's card on the backlog

Hello @Tekle Tatarishvili

Team Managed boards do not include the feature to change the card layout. That is a aila le only for Company Managed project boards.

Only the people watching this post have seen your Question. I recommend that you start a new Question post and provide more information what you are trying to accomplish. More people will see your question if you start a new post.

Thanks for the answers @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- AND @Trudy Claspill .

My questions refer to tasks that I've created for an epic but for some reason are not shown in the backlog.
I noticed that maybe the status is the reason, but still couldn't find out why.

See this epic (Maintenance), it got 5 child issues (tasks) with the status "Maintenance", but for some reason, they do not appear in the backlog.
Do you guys have any idea why?

What is the board query, and is "maintenance" mapped correctly to a column in the board settings?

Thanks @Nic Brough -Adaptavist-  ! I checked the columns configuration and the missing statuses had no columns attached. Now that I linked them to columns the issues appear :)
