How to capture email id from the issue got created via email in JIRA Software Cloud?

Akhil Namdev March 8, 2024

I have configured email handler to create issues via email for no-jira users.

Now I want to send a notification to user (who in non-jira user) for issue resolution, for this I want to create an automation but for that I would need email address. Please help.

Hi @Akhil Namdev,

That all depends to where you stored the email address of the sender when you created the issue originally.

You can use smart values in the To field of the send email action in automation, but it requires the email address of that person to be somewhere on your issue.

Suppose you have added this in a custom field that named contact email, that smart value would be {{issue.contact email}}. But you would have to replace that with whatever you used to store that email address.

Hope this helps!

Adding to that: if you are planning to do this on a regular basis, you might be better of implementing Jira Service Management at some point. You don't need to be to grant access to your external users (customers) there and there's much easier communication features there with these external users.
