How do I get global rank field to change with drag/drop on planning board?

Elizabeth Sordi July 6, 2012

We had our project set up perfectly where we were using the global rank field for our project and could drag/drop cards in the planning board to set the ranking using the Default context. Now it doesn't work. I can drag/drop the card on the page but if I refresh or go to another page, it just goes back to how it was before and it looks like the actual value of the ranking field does not change. I have tried changing the context or making new ones and that doesn't work or help.

We are using Greenhopper 5.10.1. I have the project set up to use the scrum template. The project is associated with Greenhopper. The ranking field is associated with all issue types for the project. I've also reindexed Jira. None of these things has mattered so far. Maybe it's something weird with which screens the rank field is associated with and that other projects are using those same screens? Other projects use another manually set Rank field so I think maybe Jira is mixing the two up for this project???

I would also love to better understand Context - it seems like what you do within a Context does not stick or does not stay in place for other users. What is the point?

Thanks so much for the help!

I think I figured it out. The custom ranking field needed to be available to all projects and now it works. Weird.

Yes, it seems that it can't be scoped to a project even if it's not scoped to issues.

I'm afraid I have no solution but I'm experiencing the same problems and can contribute a little more context.

I'm trying to setup multiple planning board contexts sorted by different global rank fields.

However I experienced that the only working ranking field is "global rank". All other ranking fields are not updated when I drag/drop the issues around in the planning board. Even "Rank" (didn't try "Rank (obsolete)") does not work.

Furthermore, I'm not sure if I can create multiple sorted this way. The following is confusing:

"you can have multiple fields of type Global Rank" [1]

"Multiple Global Rank fields are supported" [2]

but the label "Field Configurations" for Global Rank says: "Rank field for GreenHopper use only. Please refrain from adding additional fields, doing so would not result in anything useful."

How can I achive multiple rankings as described in [2]?

I'm using JIRA v4.4.5 & GreenHopper v5.8.7.
