How do I add fields to my Jira Scrum Board cards?

areynaldos March 26, 2024

I want to add the status of the issue to the card on the Scrum board.

In previous versions of Jira (and the one we run at work), there is a settings page to change the "Card Layout". It's been there forever.

However, I am running some tests on my personal Jira instance (free, cloud) and the interface is very different, with no option to change the card layout. What I see is a very small set of options like "Columns and Status" instead of "Columns" and "Swimlanes" and "card cover images".

Is there a way to enable more functionality? I looked around for the Jira version but couldn't find it.

Thanks in advance!

Hello @areynaldos

It sounds like you are working with a Team Managed project. Check the bottom of the panel on the left when you have the board displayed. There it will say either team-managed or company-managed.

If it is Team Managed then that type of project and board does not yet support customizing the card layout.

That was exactly it! While I couldn't find where it says the type of project, I created another project from scratch, and it has what I needed, exactly as you explained.

When creating the very first project in my instance I didn't get an option to create it team or company-managed, but the second project did ask and now I know what you are talking about!

Thanks a lot!

Not all project templates can make both a Team Managed project and a Company Managed project. Some can be created as only one or the other. And even the ones that do support both may not present an obvious prompt for you to choose.

For projects that already exist you can go to the View all projects page under the Projects menu. The Type column will say the type of the project.
