How can I migrate the existing set of issues to different work flow?

Kavitha Sen July 15, 2015

We planned to pull out resolved status for all issue types apart from bug. The project has around 2500 issues. Once coding is done developers by mistake mark the story or improvement as resolved, in turn it affects the burn-down chart. So we planned to go for different workflow for story and improvement. Will it affect the existing Jiras.

Thanks,

Yes, changing the workflow affects the existing issues.

Let's say you have a project with Bugs, Story and Improvements.

Your workflow scheme currently says "use 'general' workflow by default", so all of them use the workflow called 'general'.

Your new setup needs to have a workflow scheme that says:

  • Bug: workflow called 'general'
  • Story: my nice new workflow
  • Improvement: my nice new workflow

When you apply that scheme to the project, it will migrate ALL Stories and Improvements on to your nice new workflow.  If the new workflow drops any status (e/g you have "testing" in the general workflow but not in the new one), you will be asked to move Stories and Improvements that are in dropped status into another status to complete the migration
