Get project key in HttpServlet

Hey all, I edit a project key on a scrum project because we wanted to create a kanban board, use the original key from the scrum board and migrate the issues form the scrum board to the kanban board...Yes, I am trying to convert from Scrum to Kanban for a project and know no other in JIra. I made the change, the re-index successfully completed the key looks to have changed, but when I try adding the Kanban project I am getting the error Key is already used by the ols project? What am I missing, OR is there another easier way to do this?
