Features and Components availability in business project

Evi Zaou August 8, 2022

Hello,

I have been using Jira software for my business’s project management for the past week, when I noticed that some of the available features are not accessible from all the templates.
The template we are using is the business project, which does not include features like Roadmap, adding an epic as a parent, etc., while the software project template includes those and others.
My question is whether it is possible to enable features like the ones mentioned above in the business project template, either possibly through a custom template, or just using the software  Thank you in advance!

Hello @Evi Zaou

Welcome to the community.

When you subscribe to Jira Software you actually get two "projects" - Jira Work Management and Jira Software.

Jira Work Management is a somewhat smaller/different feature set than Jira Software. Jira Software adds more features to your system specifically targeting functionality that would be relevant to software development teams. The target users for the two products are different, so they function differently.

You access the different feature sets initially by selecting the Project Template from which to create you project. If you select a template from the Software Development list, you get the features from Jira Software. If you select a template from one of the other lists, you are getting Jira Work Management features.

After creating the project, you can tell which type it is by looking in the left-side navigation pane. Just below the project name at the top it will say "Software" or "Business".

You cannot modify the project templates.

You can make some modifications to a project after you have created it. For instance, you can add the Epic issue type to a Business project. Some features from Jira Software cannot be "enabled" in a Jira Work Management (Business) project, such as Roadmap or customizing the workflows. And some of the features of a Business project cannot be enabled in a Software project, such as Summary Page, Timeline, and Calendar.

This page will give you more information about Jira Work Management features:

Hi Evangelia - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

There are two different types of business projects (Jira Work Management projects) that can be created - Team-managed and Company-managed. These two different types will behave different from each other. Team-managed are self-contained and do not share any part of the project (including screens, fields, etc.) with any other project. What you describe as what you want sounds more like the Company-managed project type.
