Error when trying to Simplify Workflow

We are running version 6.4.4 of JIRA Agile and when I click Simplify Workflow for any board, I get "Something went wrong when trying to associate the new workflow to the project in JIRA. Please check your logs for more details."

When I check the logs, there are no errors.  It shows the record of the workflow being updated as if everything was successful even though the change doesn't take affect.

Has anyone experienced this error and how did you resolve it?

Update:  We finally found a resolution.  The problem was with an add-on for Risk Workflow Scheme.  The Project first needed to be changed to a different workflow and then we could convert it to Simplified.

I've only ever seen that message accompanied by a huge block of data in the application log.

Which file(s) are you reading for the errors?
