Delete Sprint/Kanban Board - Jira Cloud / 7.3

Kit Goode December 22, 2017

Since the update I can no longer find how to delete boards, as the ability to manage boards seems to have gone. Where can I find it now?

For me, I see the option to delete boards here:

  1. Select Boards from the top menu
  2. Click View All Boards
  3. Click on the "..." at the right of the board you want to delete
  4. I see Board Settings, Move, Copy, Delete
Kit Goode December 23, 2017

Perfect, there it is, ta!

@Jeetendra Swain, if you are on cloud and you own the board you wish to delete go to magnifying glass > board section and click View all boards. You can delete from that screen.

@Jack Brickey Thanks

Kit Goode September 7, 2018

It's also moved again for me - now I go to my current sprint board, then click the drop-down

1.PNG

Then at the bottom of the drop down I 'view all boards'

2.PNG

Then that gives me the option to manage, delete ect.

I had to use this one above, the magnifying glass icon didn't give me view all board link, just a recent boards, fliters, and projects links.  I do get a view all boards in the other Jira cloud instance I work in.  I am an administrator in both.  Very strange.

Alan Williams March 20, 2019

This is no longer correct for the current cloud version.  I do not see "view all boards" option in the this menu.

Hi Alan, this still works for me. Please see the screen shots that Kit Goode provided on Sep 07, 2018 a few comments up.

Kit Goode March 21, 2019

The added caveat is since then, the sidebar is hidden by default on sprint board and you have to click the burger menu to open it

After that, apart from some very slight visual changes, it's basically the same as in Sep '07 comment

Are board owners the only ones allowed to delete the board?

Amol Ranpise December 1, 2021

It's worked for me, Thank You :-)

Keita ATTICOT January 8, 2022

Why its so damn hard to simple delete a board.

I can get this button on the latest version.

Is it a conspiracy ? 🤔

If you are on cloud with new UI:

  • magnifying glass (search)
  • recent boards > View all boards
  • find board and click eclipses on the right
Kit Goode December 23, 2017

There it is, thanks!

There is no more "View all boards" in the Search bar in 2019... so where to do it now?

Edit: I was wrong, it is not in the Search bar, but in the "Search Boards" - thnx!

It's unclear from the UI, but you have to scroll down on that menu popup to see the "View all boards" link.

This solved my problem, thank you!

Nuno Cortesão January 22, 2021

It was not explicit by this root. I had to use an extra step:
Instead of "recently viewed" I went to "go to all" and select boards.
Another way is to add in the URL "your jira domain"/jira/boards?contains=

At last ! The URL method is this only that works for all !

Paul Taylor April 8, 2022

this is honestly terrible from a user perspective. I could not get it to show up at all using the above methods.  Then  i typed the letter A in the search bar with the magnifier and now all of a sudden view all boards is visible. I wouldn't have found it all all if not for these posts though. thanks

Worked for me. Thank you!

Verify your Jira version first, these instructions are for Jira cloud version

  1. Click onMagnifying Glass on the left side menu

2. It will bring a Search Screen

Screen Shot 2019-09-13 at 11.11.10.png

And at the bottom of same screen, you can Click on Boards to filter your search for Boards only

Screen Shot 2019-09-13 at 11.11.48.png

3. Type your board name you want to delete, once you see the board, on the right hand side of the board, you see three dots, when you click three dots, you will see the following options (depends upon your access on the board) and if you have access, you can delete the board from there. If you have an active sprint on this board, it will bring a waring screen to say, you have active sprint and if you still want to delete it, if its a duplicate board, you can delete it if not, you may want to wait until you complete the sprint.

Thank you @jasdeep I have literally spent an hour looking at all the old solutions. What a terrible UI!

Why can't it be

1) Edit the board (board settings).

2) Find delete option in drop down menu

Perfect! Why does Atlassian hide that page so well in the UI :) ?

Can Nuhoglu January 20, 2021

I have been rading all the comments in the past about this issue. It is almost like Atlasisan delibirately tries to hide this every time somebody comes up with an aswer. But your solution George, was pretty straigth forward. Thank you.

Brittany Wayne August 22, 2021

I'm able to get to the list of boards but there are no ellipses next to the inactive board I want to delete (the third one). I also cannot click on the name of the board to open it - it's completely inactive. I'm the org & site admin and in the jira-administrators group. Any ideas for how to delete??

Sina Abdi August 23, 2021

@Brittany Wayne I just ran into this and its because (at least for me) the projects with no options were actually in the trash. once I permanently deleted them, they boards disappeared as well.

To Perm Delete Go to:

1. Settings (Top right Gear Icon)

2. Projects

3. Trash

4. Option to permanently Delete

So in the latest view

Click on Your Work -> Click on Board Tab

Now you will see 3 dots ... and just delete.

It was slightly difficult to find

Thanks for this. This is the way to do it atm.

Worst experience with a UI... Really need to step up their UX. Should not be that hard to just delete a board.

Laura Colon August 27, 2020

In the version of JIRA that I use, you have to be in the configuration page for that board.  Once you  are in there then you can click on the board menu and you will see the delete option.   I had to go through all the options mentioned above to figure this out.  :(

Kal Kalotai September 10, 2020

can you post a screenshot?  running into the same problem and cant find the delete/remove option anywhere... :(

Laura Colon September 10, 2020

Sure, you first need to select the board. Then click on the board button and select Configure.

1st Step.jpg

After you click on configure you will see the Board button again.  Click on it again and you should see the Delete option.

@Zia Ul Rehman , this is an old thread but let me try to assist.

If you are trying to delete a classic board and you are the owner of this board please do the following:

  1. click on the search bar in the top menu
  2. click on the Boards label at the bottom of the window
  3. in the Boards window find your board
  4. on the right click the ellipses
  5. you should see the following options: Edit settings, Copy, Move, Delete

You don't delete the board from the specific board view itself, at least any longer.

Does anyone else agree, that Atlassian have a habit of moving things for the sake of it, it keep you on your toes, but also infuriates me to the point I go looking for alternatives. Argh rant over.
