Changing the RESOLUTION Field VALUE with the help of BULK Operation

Hi All,

How to change the RESOLUTION Field VALUE with the help of BULK Operation ?

2 answers

I had similar need to use an operation Bult Edit field Resolution with Jira, cause of bad workflow in business process = some post process functions wasn't added for a long time.

I think there is no ability to edit field Resolution with Bulk operations, I found this: Task for the problem

But you could do this changes one by one for every task or add some steps in workflow and send all tasks to this steps (you could change field Resolution inside steps with post process function).

The problem with a bulk edit for the resolution field is that the update date will not accurately reflect the actual resolution date. Instead it will reflect the bulk edit date.

We didn't have the Resolution field in our tickets and want to go back to update all the closed tickets with a value in that field (and the Res Date), but don't know the best approach right now. Looking for a good solution.

Hi @Roja Gurram

You have to ensure that the resolution field is in the edit screen temporarily.  In most cases resolution should be used when you are closing a ticket, but in this case you need to bring it in to edit in bulk.

Regards

Take note of the temporarily in that answer - you must do this edit during a time that others are unlikely to be editing issues, and you absolutely must remove the field after you've done the bulk edit.

Otherwise people will be resolving issues incorrectly when editing them.

Thanks to both of you!

This i tried earlier. But , now my question is i need to change the RESOLUTION field value for the existing issues ( Around 750+ issues ) in one of my TEST project.
How do i achieve this with the help of BULK Permission please ?

Um, search for the issues, use bulk-edit from the options menu in the results display, and use the edit option for it.  If you've placed resolution on-screen, then you'll be able to edit it for all the selected issues.

Hi NIC,

Though the RESOLUTION Field (which is a System Field) is present on the screen, i couldn't see the filed when doing the BULK operation.

Kindly let me know how to achieve this pls?

Were you using the "edit" option from the bulk-edit type selection?  Can you see the field on-screen if you edit one of the issues directly?

Hi Nic,

Yes, using the same option. I can edit the field directly on the screen. But not the bulk operation. Attached screenshots for your reference.

Ok, that's good.  When you get into the process though, where are you looking for the resolution field?  (I mean in the list of fields it presents to you - near the top, or in the area where you'd expect fields with names starting R in the list)

Nic,

When i choose EDIT ISSUE operation then it will take me into the Operation Details section here we will get the list of fields right there i am trying to search for RESOLUTION field.

Ok, so "Change resolution" is not appearing anywhere in that list?  I'd expect it to be a bit below "change comment" - the first batch of fields you see are "system" fields, so it usually falls in there.  The second section is an alphabetically sorted list of custom fields.

The other thing we need to check is that the resolution field is on the edit screen for all of the issues being edited.  If it's not available for one or more, then the bulk-edit has to drop it.

Hi Nic,

"Change resolution" is not appearing anywhere in that list? - Yes, not there.

I'd expect it to be a bit below "change comment"  - Not there.

I have checked RESOLUTION FIELD is present on Edit screen for all of the issues present in the project.
