Cannot start Jira Core 7.7.1 installer in terminal mode (CentOS 7.4)

sym February 5, 2018

Wanted to upgrade Jira Core to 7.7.1 on my CentOS7, but the installer doesn't work in terminal mode anymore:

# ./atlassian-jira-core-7.7.1-x64.bin -c
Unpacking JRE ...
Starting Installer ...
Feb 05, 2018 2:32:29 PM java.util.prefs.FileSystemPreferences$2 run
INFORMATION: Created system preferences directory in java.home.
Could not display the GUI. This application needs access to an X Server.

You can also run this application in console mode without
access to an X server by passing the argument -c

It worked with older versions of the Jira installer, but 7.7.1 seem not to like it.

I do not want to install X11 just to get the installer running...

OS is x64, installer is x64.

Any ideas?

Hi,

This was addressed in the post titled cannot install JIRA RHEL 7.3.  The fix was to install via the tar.gz instead of the .bin file. Another suggestion was to make sure you install dejavu-sans-fonts on a headless server:

    yum install dejavu-sans-fonts

Try that and let me know if you get different results.

Cheers,

Branden

dejavu-sans-fonts was the trick. Thanks.
