Can we set all the status in a ticket as individual buttons?

After creating the Work flow we get all the status in the drop down. but we need all the status in an individual buttons. that means "Need Approval" "Approved" and "In Progress" all should be above the ticket as a button.

This is not possible. Actually in an earlier version of the software all of the transitions, not statuses, were in fact buttons. This got extremely busy for most all projects due to the number of transitions.
