Can subtasks be migrated from Jira On-Premise to Jira Software Cloud?

dhernandezs September 12, 2022

Hello. My team and I are migrating some very important data to Jira Software Cloud, but we can't find a way to migrate the subtasks. Can these subtasks be migrated or is it impossible?

I hope you can help us!!

What migration method are you using?

Hello.

Currently the method we are using is to export the On-Premise issues to excel, debug some cells and mount them in jira cloud

By "mount" do you mean that you use the Import Issues feature? Is the import file a CSV format?

Does the exported data include the sub-tasks?

Do you have previous experience creating issues and sub-tasks through the Import Issues process?

When creating issues and their sub-tasks through Import Issues from CSV File you have to include a field in the rows for sub-tasks that identifies their parent issue. If the parent issues where previously imported, this field should include the issue key. If the parent issues are being created in the same import process as the sub-tasks, then your parent issues need a field with a unique identifier and the sub-tasks need to use that same identifier in the field where they specify their parent. Example

Issue type, Summary, issue identifier, issue parent
Story, This story's summary, 1,
Sub-task, This sub-task's summary, 2, 1
Sub-task, Another sub-task, 3, 1
Story, Another story, 4,
Sub-task, A sub-task under the above story, 5, 4

You then have to use the External System Import option available to Jira Admins to import the data. When mapping the fields, you have to map the "issue identifier" and "issue parent" fields as follows:
