Can I use JQL to return the issue's Epic given that I only have the Issue Key?

Jared Praino March 1, 2019

I am building an automation tool for my team's JIRA project using Azuqua.  At the moment, I am able to monitor for transitions, in this case when a story moves to a particular status.

If the story meets certain criteria, I want to then transition the epic to the next status.  I am having trouble using just the story's issue key to then find the Epic's issue key using JQL.  Is this possible?

Hello,

The Epic key is stored in the Epic Link field. I am not sure, how you want to use the JQL, that is why I can not give you more details.

But suppose you want to see the Epic key of an issue in the Issue Navigator.

Then just add the Epic Link column to your search result.

Yes, that's right! Thank you! I can retrieve the epic with the Epic Link field!
