Can I reposition the 'any status' marker when editing workflows?

In workflow edit mode:

For space & presentation reasons, I would like my primary workflow representation to go vertically down the page.

However, the "any status" transition marker seems to want to live directly underneath each state.  This means that it gets in the way of my primary layout.

Is there a way to convince that "any status" transition marker to come in from another direction, such as from the left or right or a diagonal?

The short answer is no, you cannot change the position of that marker.
