Burndown report :Discrepancy in Velocity reports

sandhya April 29, 2015

I am looking at the metrics for the following Board for Sprint 1104:

According to the Burndown report, using an event detail of "Issue Completed", I get a total of 13 points (5, 3, 3, 1, 1). However, when I go to Velocity report, I see 8 points.
Similarly, for the other sprints:
i. Sprint 1104: Burndown of 13 points, vs Velocity of 8 points
ii. Sprint 1105: Burndown of 31 points vs Velocity of 13 points
iii. Sprint 1106: Burndown of 36 points vs Velocity of 57 points
iv. Sprint 1107: Burndown of 52 points vs Velocity of 52 points (this is good)
Can you help explain why I have a discrepancy?
Thanks.

Sandhya,

Which 'Burndown report' do you mean? I can tell you that the velocity on the Velocity chart is not the same as the velocity used for calculations on the Release Burndown and the Version Report.

Take a look here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/agile066/jira-agile-user-s-guide/using-a-board/using-reports/viewing-the-release-burndown

Look at the Predicted Sprints section on that page and you'll see an example of what I'm referring to.
