Is there any way to aggregate burndown charts for a whole release? I would like to know if we are on track for the release but there seems to be no other way than looking up the burndown reports for 10 different teams.

To add another plugin to the list, check out Intelligent Reports. It lets you design your chart in Microsoft Word, and then fill in as many series as you like with simple point and click rules. There is no scripting or API to learn.

JIRA PDF View Plugin has a Burn Down Chart template, which can display a Burn Down Chart, Daily Velocity Trend and other metrics from any filter.

You just have to define your specific JQL query to have your burn down by release, by sprint, by person or whatever criteria. The performance can be measure by Story Points, by number of issues or by any number type custom field.

You can use eazyBI reports and charts plugin for JIRA to create custom burn-down and burn-up charts for individual sprint as well as for whole release. See documentation about creating sprint reports which contains link also to sample story points report by sprints.
