Atlassian activation email not being sent for new user

Anthony.Fetfatsidis January 10, 2022

I've add an alias to an O365 DistributionList "alias@company.com"

It is receiving external emails.

I created an Atlassian user with the same email, but the activation email is not being sent.

I am O365 admin, there is nothing in Mail Flow and nothing in Quarantine.

Any ideas on why this is happening?

@Jack Brickey @Aashutosh

Thanks both. Tried creating new DL for the alias, no joy.

Deleted that and created M365 group and that worked.

Hi @Anthony.Fetfatsidis ,

I am using same methodology to register Email DL as an account in Jira.
You can send an invite to Email DL or you can create an account with that Email DL, but it cannot be verified, but for sending and receiving Email Notifications, it works.
Let me know, if you have more questions about it.

Hi @Anthony.Fetfatsidis , please note that I have not personally tried to use an alias. However, I have read a number of posts over the years that leave me believing that this is not possible. Here is one such post - Sending-email-notifications-to-team-alias

I wonder if simply using the DL would be possible?

hopefully someone with direct experience with alias emails will chime in here.
