Adding Multi-select field to "Issue Details View" in Greenhopper

I have a user that is trying to add a custom multi-select field to their SCRUM board. The problem is that it does not appear as an option in the board configuration page. Is there any way to add a multi-select field to a SCRUM board (or Kanban board for that matter)?

We're adding different field types incrementally from release to release. The story for multi select fields is GHS-5834, you might like to watch that issue for updates when it's implemented.
