Jira has a REST API which could be used by an external process to change the ticket status programmatically.
Jira has an Automation feature that can be used to change a ticket status automatically. However the triggers available for that are for events that occur within Jira or other integrated Atlassian DevOps products.
The Automation feature does include a Send Web Request action. If your external data can be accessed through a web request, you could create an Automation that would run on a schedule and use the web request to retrieve the external data. The Automation could evaluate the external data and determine in the ticket status should be changed.
About ticket closing automation
We are considering project management using Jira.
During the discussion, it was discussed whether it would be possible to create a mechanism to automatically close the status of tickets created in Jira using external data as a trigger. Is it possible to create such a mechanism in terms of Jira specifications, and if it is possible, please let me know if you have any experience.
