What to do with a parent issue in the backlog after splitting

Frank Litjens June 26, 2019

When splitting an issue of lets say 20SP into two a 13 and 8, what to do with the parent issue in the backlog. Does it exist in the backlog after splitting up with its original estimate having its status moved to "In Progress" when one is moved into a sprint and people starts working on it? Or is it common to reject the issue with a Resolution "Duplicate".

In short, what is the proper procedure when splitting up an issue?

Hi @Frank Litjens

Obviously this is more of an Agile question than a Jira one, but worth thinking about anyway.

You have an issue of 20 SP which you want to split. I would keep the original issue but change it to 13SP and create only 1 other issue of 8SP. You may need to adjust the wording of the first one to make sense because it's now "repurposed"
