JIRA - Migrating from Server to Cloud

Sanjay Salunkhe July 27, 2018

Hi,

We have a Jira Professional 3.2 version that we have hosted onpremise on our server. We are looking to subscribe to Jira cloud. We want to migrate our existing Onpremise 3.2 version data to Jira cloud. Is that possible? Can you please provide details on it.

Thanks & Regards

To move to Cloud, you need to export your data from your system and import it into an empty Cloud container.  The export is easy - you hit admin then backup, and export to xml.  The import is similar, you do admin -> restore and give it the backup file.

However.  3.2 is ancient.  It's almost as old as my first Jira install, and I've been here a long time.

Cloud can only import from very recent versions of Jira Server.  Currently, 7.11 is the only supported importable version (although you might find you can use a 7.10 or 7.9 export)

You will need to upgrade your 3.2 all the way to 7.11 so you can export the xml in a format that can be imported to cloud.

You will need to step through the upgrades with at least these jumps: 3.2 > 3.5 > 3.6 > 3.10 > 3.13 > 4.4 > 5.2 > 6.4 > 7.0 > 7.11
