how to disable auditing

Currently we are synchronizing around 100K customers with some metadata to JSD 8.5.1 via REST API. The speed however is very poor, it takes approximately 2 seconds per customer. We have found that auditing logs 8 issues with the category 'user management' per item which is likely responsible for the crawling behavior. How can we disable the auditing at all or for this particular category?
