We have Jira Service Management and Jira Insight fully setup/configured, I'm just trying to understand what license a users needs to access Insight? Since it's part of the JSM toolset, does the user need a JSM license? Or once the connection is made, a simple JSW license will suffice to access the data?

Hi @Mathew Lederman !

Access is done through roles and permissions.  The roles are defined on a user or group basis.  So, as long as they have access to Jira, they should be able to access the objects in the object schema as defined here.

@Robert Wen_ReleaseTEAM_, I thought they had to have a JSM license.. I think you can interact with them in a very limited capacity if you don't have a JSM license and they are tied to a custom field, but given that it comes "with" JSM, I think you need a license to fully use it.

@Robert Wen_ReleaseTEAM_ appreciate the info. We have roles and permissions setup, my question is strictly around the license required. Like @Kian Stack Mumo Systems said, because Insight comes with JSM, it would make sense that a JSM license is required, but I can't find anything that tells me definitively if a user with only a JSW license would have access to Insight or not even if the permissions are wide open.

I can't find anything in their documentation clearly stating "Only agents can use insight", but I'm almost positive that is the behavior. This feature request certainly seems to indicate this is the case.

The way I read that feature request is that JSW users would have Read-Only access while JSM would have Edit which aligns with my testing on one of my alternate accounts.

Not sure if this is different on Datacenter vs Cloud but with a JSW only account on Datacenter I am able to see Insight data. I can't make any changes, but I can comment, export etc.
