Update custom field Priority

Ilidio Faria March 5, 2021

Hello People,

Since we are using Jira Cloud that we use in Priority

1- Critical

2- High

3-Medium

And in one project, at the midle of the project the customer decided that he wants the priority like

P1 - Show Stopper

P2 - Critical

P3 - High

How can I update the old tickets that only have Priority, with the new Custom Field (Priority 2). What we want is that in the old tickets appears, for example, Priority= "1- Critical" and Priority 2 = "P1 - Show Stopper"

Regards,

Ilídio

You don't.

Cloud only has one priority list, and if you add your customer's priorities, you've got a problem in that you will have all six priorities showing for *everyone*

If you go off and use a different field for this one customer, and want to "translate" existing priority into it, then run a search for "project = X and priority = Y" and use bulk edit to set the new field based on the old one (you'll need to repeat the exercise for each different priority you have)

Correct, but unfortunately I'm site admin and admin of the project, and when I try the bulk I got this message: You do not have permission to edit the selected 34 issues or at least one issue has a status that forbids editing.

Do you know what can I do? I tried to bulk 2 issues randomly and worked well :-)

@Ilidio Faria - Check those issues' project and adjust the WF as needed, so when an issue is at the terminal status (i.e. Closed), you need to remove the status property default setting out of the box.  Generally, when an issue is at the terminal status, it is locked down for further issue editing.

Can I create a custom field like the priority field with the colour markers?

We have a clinical process and I would like to be able to create a field to indicate by colour the severity of the clinical risk for the change. This is not to control the priority of the task, its more about the visual aspect.

I just need to know what Field Type I need to select.

Thanks

Melissa

@Ilidio Faria -

For Jira Cloud, the option to set priority scheme by individual project is currently only available for Jira DC.  I would recommend you to vote/watch the current enhancement ask for Jira Cloud for this functionality - https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-3821

Otherwise you will need to consider @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- recommendation the following options -

  1. create a custom field and custom WF post function for each project to use the custom field to replace the priority (it is not ideal)
  2. use Nic's Adaptavist "Scriptrunner for Jira" add-on- You can use one of add-on's component "Behaviors" to control the options for the priority field per project.  NOTE - Scriptrunner for Jira is an excellent valuable add-on for Jira env (CLOUD/DC).

Hope this helps.
