Hello Atlassian community,
specific question in the Asset area.
We are having all our application registered in Assets in one object type. These applications sometime are having Add-ons app installed on them (like Tempo for Jira for example).
Most of the attribute values of the application and the add-on is the same, only a few attribute values, such as the price, are different.
We are now checking on how we can add these add-ons smartly to the applications.
We have tried to use the inheritance and created a child object "Add-ons", which has the "Applications as the parent object.
This setting:
With this setting we get the same attributes for the Add-ons as we are having for the Applications, which is ok, but actually we would need the attribute values as well.
I know you can create an attribute to link from the child object to a parent object, but then I still have to copy all the attributes manually from the parent to the child.
Is there any way to sync the values of the parent attributes to the connected object(s) of the child attributes so that they are always aligned?
Meaning that if we change an attribute value on the parent object it will be reflected automatically on all children values? Automation rule?
And does this approach make sense concerning best practice?
I hope that was clear, otherwise please reach out and thanks in advance!
Best regards,
Simon
Ensure that the inheritance feature is properly configured. When you create a child object type, such as “Add-ons”, you can enable the option to inherit attributes from the parent object type, “Applications”. This will allow the child object to have the same attributes as the parent. In Jira Assets, syncing attribute values from a parent object to its child objects can be a bit complex, but it’s possible with the right configuration and use of automation rules.
