Incoming mail Google authorization fails periodically

Kyrylo Vynohradov August 16, 2021

Hi all

We have the setup for the creation Jira issues from incoming mail.

Unfortunately, it fails approximately one time\week so we should re-authorize it manually in Mail Servers tab and then test and save Mail Handler.

How can it be fixed?

Details:
Jira Server 8.17.1 ( but this issue is much older)

Mail server:

Secure-POP

pop.gmail.com

port 995

auth method - Google - OAuth 2.0

Mail Handler: default settings with Accept the email for processing.

Test can show some of errors like Sender is anonymous, no default reporter specified and creating users is set to false.
But after actions I've mentioned before it starts anyway.

Thanks in advance

We are also experiencing this issue though our authorization lasts longer than a week. It seems to fail every 30 days or so. Manually re-authorizing every 30 days (after incoming mail fails silently) compared to just using legacy insecure method and never having a problem seems like a pretty crappy compromise.

This doesn't seem to be a problem on the Gmail side since our service desk mail handler account uses Google OAuth2 and never seems to fail (different account, same settings in GSuite)

Does anyone have any insight as to where the problem might lie?

Jira DC 8.13.x
