I can see duplicate fields for severity in Jira and want to delete them.

Swati Kakkar February 3, 2021

We have configured severity field in our defects in Jira and there are duplicate entries of SEV 2 and Sev 4. Is there any way to delete those entries from the list.

do you have two Severity fields or do you have duplicate values w/in a single severity field?

go to admin > issues > custom fields, search for your Severity field. Edit the contexts by clicking on the ellipses. Observe the available values. Edit the values and "disable" those you do not want. Note if you want to "delete" the duplicates you first should change any issue that is using the duplicate over to the value that will remain. One way to do this is to rename one of the dups so that there are no dups in the list. Then using jql filters find all of the instances of the renamed value and use bulk edit to change to the value that will remain. Finally go back into the context screen and delete the no longer needed values.
