How to create a Work-on-Hand burn down chart

Would like create a work-on-hand burn down report that that tracks total number of open and closed tickets each week, with a forecast for upcoming weeks.

When I try to create a report, and add two series:

  • Open - all bugs with status not closed or resolved
  • Closed - all bugs with status closed or resolved

I find I get a graph with the counts of number of tickets that entered these states on a daily basis, which is not useful for a burn chart.

What I want is a total count of each, aggregated on a weekly basis so I can show trends.

The Series editor does not give me a lot of options. It does permit a JQL query, but not sure what expression would work in this case, nor do I see how to tell the report to generate reports weekly or monthly, rather than daily.

Hi Scott,

In our organization we use eazyBI which does exactly what you are looking for:

https://docs.eazybi.com/eazybijira/learn-more/learn-eazybi-through-sample-reports/samples-jira-issues/created-vs-resolved-issues-over-time

It also provides customization where you can create a line for forecasts.

Thanks Fabian. So there is nothing built into Jira for this? I will check it out and report back. Thanks again.

You can look for a bar gagdet where you can map issues open and resolved.  But that's pretty much it.

If you are using JSM, they have pre-built reports as well, but limited to what you can display.

EasyBI looks like a great Jira plugin that does what I want. We have installed it on a trial basis for 30 days, and I expect to buy the license at the end of the free trial period if all goes well. Thanks Fabian!

I found this related answer, which is great, but it is based on having a scrum board. For the tickets I am interested in, I am looking to create a long term burn-down chart that spans multiple scrum boards. So the answer below does not seem to apply.
