There is no out of the box 2FA.

Depending on how you want to implement this you will have to use one of the following optinos:

  • Use a 2FA plugin.
    This one for example does not require an external IDP. You can managed the 2FA settings in Jira.
  • Configure SAML (out of the box) to connect to your IDP
    In my experience the out of the box SAML is quite limited in features
  • Use a SAML plugin to connect to your IDP to benefit from more features

@Charlie Misonne

Thanks for the reply, could you just let me know by using any one of the above methods will i be able to enforce 2FA on external customers in Jira service desk (not the agents)

Yes, @shrikant maheshwari Your requirement can be easily achieved using the miniOrange Two Factor Authentication add-on.

It provides various options to enable 2FA for a subset of users (based on groups). So using that you will be able to enforce 2FA just for your external users (i.e Jira service management customers). And the Service desk agents won't be asked for 2FA.

Feel free to reach out to us at or you can raise the ticket in case you need any help!

PS: I work with the miniOrange organisation and I am the developer of the 2FA app!

@shrikant maheshwari you'll definitely need a plugin to enable 2FA for customers only.

I've worked with the miniOrange solutions before and I can recommend it. But there are other alternatives too so it's up to you :-)
The best would be to start a free trial for one of the plugins and see whether it fits your expectations.
