Hello - I am trying to create subtask ticket using csv import. I have looked ways to do it and found a lot of information. What I found out was I need have at least, Issue Type, Issue ID, Summary, Parent ticket ID and I have these and much more in my csv file. My problem is likely that I cannot map issue type. It doesn't exist in the drop down menu. I am wondering,
1- If that is really the issue?
2- How can I resolve it?
Appreciate if someone can assist me to resolve this issue.
From the log:
2025-02-25 03:50:24,111 INFO - Issue does not have issue type selected, the affected issues will be created with issue type [Epic] 2025-02-25 03:50:24,146 ERROR - Issue 'ABC' doesn't have a valid Parent selection based on the Issue type hierarchy rules. Issue will not be created.
Hi @Volkan Uzer
You cannot create a sub-task that way. Since it needs to be associated with a parent, you can only create the sub-task from within the parent. With CSV import, the parent you want the sub-task to be a child of must already exist when you perform the sub-task association. A sub-task cannot stand alone.
If your EPIC issue is already created in your project, then you will need to add the Epic issue key in the Parent ID column
Hope this helps
Hi @Pasam Venkateshwarrao - My main problem is I don't see 'issue type' selection in mapping screen at all. How do I resolve that?
Our hierrachy set up in the following way,
EPIC Ticket --> Child Issue --> Subtasks
I am trying to subtasks under the child issue which I put its ID in column 'Parent' because that is how it show up when I export csv for issues that already have this hierrachy. I don't see Parent ID as you put it. I also do not see Parent ID in mapping selection drop down menu options.

I neither have Parent ID or Issue type as drop down menu selections during mapping. I only have Parent. I tried adding both actual parent ticket number and parent ticket ID. None of which worked. Still getting same error, Issue 'ABC' doesn't have a valid Parent selection based on the Issue type hierarchy rules. Issue will not be created.

Hi. No, issue type 'sub-task' is not under create. Only way to create subtask is, through 'Add' button in given ticket that is already created.

Hi @Volkan Uzer ,
Not here, you need to go to project setting --> Expand Issues tab -->Screens
now expand the screen scheme mapped to your sub task issue type and open the Screen mapped to Create screen. Check if the Issue type field is present in the screen. If not, you need to add and then retry the import.
Also make sure there is sub-task ticket type in the project
Issues --> Types.

Thank you @Rilwan . I see subtask in screens and when I expand it, I see as below. I also do not see Issue --> Types as a setting.

Thanks @Rilwan Ahmed - When I click ECQUALITY SubTask Screen Scheme, I get the drop down menu where we see Create issue, Edit issue and View issue. And I cannot click any of those to add anything. :(
