Chiliding Issue

Michael Bray June 26, 2024

Hi,

In my service management project when I link an issue and make it a 'child of' I want the child issues to tranistion to the 'On Hold' Status. I have set up an automation to do this:

The rule is triggering but making no changes. I get the following output:

Any ideas please?

Cheers.

Hi @Michael Bray

If I understood correctly There are two issues

Issues A and Issue B

and now we are linking Issue B to Issue A as child of and then the Issue A becomes the child issue right?

If Yes Then you have to select Link type "Parent" in the Branch then the automation should work can you pls check this.

Thank you.

The Scenario would be that we are linking Issue B to issue A as a child so Issue A would always be the parent, when this happens issue B would be placed on hold and y other issues we may link to issue A as a child. So for example if we linked C,D & E to A, A would still be the parent and B,C,D & E would all be children and placed on hold whilst Issue A was fxied.

Hi @Michael Bray

I recreated the automation in my instance and i also got the same error

Following this I tired giving destination issue in the branch Instead of the link type But that also didn't work the way we wanted. So I went to the global settings > issues > issue Linking and switched the Inward and Outward description. In your system the Inward description for the parent link type will be  child of and outward will be Parent so if you switch these both

Outward Description - child of

Inward Description - Parent

Once you made these changes the automation should work as per your Requirements

Thank you.
