Add a group to Organisation

Ronah Kabagambe April 12, 2024

I want to add a group of users into an organisation of which there are several in Jira Service Management project.

Is that possible or is this done solely by adding one user at a time to an organisation?

Hi @Ronah Kabagambe

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

From UI, you can add customers email addresses one by one or enter multiple email addresses separated by commas.

If you are familiar with REST APIs, you can also use "Add users to organization" method to add customers via a script.

Thanks and i have tried the first albeit it just does one by one though comma separated. Will test the REST APIs.

Hi @Ronah Kabagambe

Assuming you mean a user Group - then this isn't possible natively at this time. There is a feature request though - check out: JSDCLOUD-4867

There's also a separate feature request for adding existing Customers in bulk to an Organization, which might be of interest - check out: JSDCLOUD-9265

---

I did find a few workarounds...

  1. Use REST API as @Kishan Sharma suggests above to add Customers, see this POST call
  2. Use an App; for example, check out this free app - Group & Organization Sync - or look for another App on the Marketplace
  3. Copy the emails in bulk from Excel > Customer email box. This is similar to the manual option mentioned on this help page

---

For (3), this is how to do it...

  1. Export a list of users - either from the user directory or the customer list
  2. In the CSV, copy just the email addresses as one column
  3. Go to your Organization
  4. Select Add customers
  5. Copy the list into the box
  6. Press "+ Add"
  7. Check all looks okay, then press Ok

---

I tried (3) with 100 email addresses and it worked.

Let us know if this helps :)

Thanks for the extensive info and am happy to try all of the above if not for future use.
