Variable substitution in Service Desk request hidden fields?

Is it possible to use variable substitution in Service Desk requests?

For example, I have a request for wireless access and I'd like to have a required field for LOCATION and a hidden field for the issue Summary that gets populated with "<USER> requesting wireless access at <LOCATION>"

If this isn't something JIRA or JIRA Service Desk can do out of the box, is there any add-on that will provide this functionality?

You can't do this out of this box but with the JIRA Automation Plugin this is possible.

Use the Create Event and in the JQL search for your Customer Request Type. Then use the edit action with variable expression to create your summary.
