Upgrading from Self Hosted to Cloud

Hi! We are planning on moving from Self Hosted to the cloud option. Do you guys have any conversion tools that we could use or do we need to configure everything manually again?

Hi @Rich ,

You need to co-ordinate with Atlassian support team, while restoring the data in your Cloud instance

Please look at the below documentation page for complete details:

Ran into an issue right off the bat when trying to upgrade my existing version of JIRA.

Express Install (use default settings) [1], Custom Install (recommended for advanced users) [2], Upgrade an existing JIRA installation [3, Enter]

Where should JIRA Software be installed?
[/opt/atlassian/jira]

It appears that JIRA is already installed in the directory you selected. Please choose a different directory.

Not sure how to proceed...?

Hi @Rich ,

  1. Before you upgrade your JIRA, you should take an XML backup,  backup of your JIRA home directory and backup of your JIRA database.
  2. You should be using a symbolic/soft link such that /opt/atlassian/jira points to the latest JIRA version instead of earlier JIRA version
  3. As you have already taken JIRA home backup, you can continue to point JIRA home directory to be the same old folder.
  4. You can point the new instance to use the same database as was used by the previous version of JIRA
  5. When you start latest version of JIRA, it will be using the same JIRA home folder and JIRA database. You should be on the latest JIRA version, once successfully started.
  6. If you face any issues, you can revert by restoring the jira home folder and jira database from your backup and revert the symbolic link to point to previous version of JIRA

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Ravi Varma
