Jira maxing out server CPU

Phil Bloomfield January 19, 2018

We have a self-hosted version of Jira, which this morning wouldn't load. The webpage just sat there with a blue spinning wheel. We've had a look on our server and TomCat is maxing out our CPU.

We've tried ending the service and restarting it, but as soon as we do our CPU spikes to 100% again. Therefore, we are unable to us Jira at present.

Please could this be look into asap as we are unable to view any support requests raised by our customers at present

Hi Phil,

If you take a look at the atlassian-jira.log do you see any errors such as OutofMemory errors, etc?

If you don't see anything in the JIRA logs you may need to take additional steps to determine what's going on.  The following KB articles provide further instructions to further troubleshoot the performance behavior:

If you find a particular entry in a thread/heap dump of interest or something in the logs let me know and we'll go from there.

Cheers,

Branden
