Jira Custom Field generating errors in atlassian-jira log

Ian Wilderspin August 2, 2017

I have noticed a huge number of warnings in the atlassian-jira log stating

"2017-08-02 11:40:33,278 http-nio-8080-exec-4 WARN User removed 700x229043x1 1uh6nbs 172.17.253.243,172.17.253.107 /secure/CommentAssignIssue.jspa [c.i.jmcf.fields.AbstractTransitionSearchField] com.innovalog.jmcf.fields.ActionExecutionCallerField: could not find transition name or ID in custom field description for Transition Caller"

Followed by:

"Navigate to the following URL to edit the custom field description: https://URLRemoved/secure/admin/EditCustomField!default.jspa?id=11508"

I have navigated to this URL, and it is a custom field called "Transition Caller".

The description is empty, and I've read (here https://innovalog.atlassian.net/wiki/display/JMCF) it should have an ID name or number, however I cant really work out what this field is doing, or what is using it, so I do not know what ID to give it, or whether adding one will break something.

Has anyone else had this issue, or have the same custom field with an ID number?

As the docs say: it is "a calculated custom field returning the caller of the last execution of a specified workflow transition."

The blank desription is the problem.  You need to give the field a description to tell it the "specified workflow transition"

Have a look at the workflow and pick out the name or id (available in text mode) of the transition you want to report on, then use the appropriate string in the description of the field.
