Adding a customer through Customers and User Management

Dear all,

I have a question regarding the invitation of new customers in a project in Jira Service Desk. I realise I can do it in two different ways:

a. By adding his/her email in Customers section, in a specific project,

b. By Sending an invitation from User Management and specify the project in the User profile.

My question is as follows: What is the correct way of doing such task? I can see project administrators adding customers through the Customer section but those users are not reflected in User Management. Can someone help me to understand it?
