What to link to an epic issue

Hi,

I a new to Jira,  I want to know what is the best practice for Epic, Story, Task issue creation and linking.

I am doing the following 

1-Create Epic issue

2-Create User Story (one or more) and link it to Epic Issue

3- Create the Tasks and link them to the User story.

I saw we can link the task to the Epic, do I need to do that?
