I did a search on the support site but do not get a hit–so I apologize if this question has been answered already.
When we try to update our user preferences (profile), we receive the following error:
The JIRA server could not be contacted. This may be a temporary glitch or the server may be down.
Close this dialog and press refresh in your browser

However, we can access JIRA just fine. I found similar messages received for other tasks that point to a plug-in issue and to stop and start JIRA. Not sure if that would apply here. Thank-you for any assistance.
Hi Rick,
you shoud reindex JIRA
If that will not help check the available space on disc
You can also restart jira
