change the applications to acess via DNS entry of server from local base url

vivuu January 15, 2018

Hi,

We are in a process of migrating our production Atalassian applications (Jira, confluence , Crowd, Bitbucket) from windows to Linux systems. In source system these applications are running behind areverse proxy.

So in target environment (linux) we have setup the applications and migrated the data from the Source Prod. (not migrated reverse proxy, only applications)

Curently the target migrated applications are we are accessing by the localhosturl and port only. as currently the target servers are not joined a to domain or DNS. But infra team will add the dns entries for this servers in two days.

Since we currently accessing the applications by server ip\localhost (127.0.0.1:ports).

1) What are the steps to follow, once the Infra team joined the servers to domain and the server got a dns entry.

2) Once DNS name implemented, can we directly access the applications inside the servers with the same DNS entry for eg:

Currently we are accessing Jira  : http://192.168.24.7:8080 or https://92.168.24.7:8443

once the server ABC added to domain the DNS entry will be like "ABC.mycompany.com"

is there anything to do in application side to access it by below ?

https://ABC.mycompany.com:8443

Your proxy needs to be set up to refer to your Atlassian services on the urls you want to present them on, and proxy those back to the actual services on the application server.

I'm not sure that there's a detailed enough description of the question here to help you more than that.

Hi NIC,

thanks for for your assistance

However the above statement didn’t help us anyways.

1) we are not using reverse proxy setup in target environment as we used in the source environment. We are skipping reverse proxy setup here.

so our query is that how to make the applications URLs accessible in such a way that below.

currently accessing- http://192.168.24.7:8080

https://192.168.24.7:8443

desired url to setup after dns registration:-https://ABC.mycompany.com:8443

Ah, sorry, I saw proxy in the source system and assumed you needed the same.

It doesn't change the answer though.   Your DNS entry needs to point to the public address of your server, and you should set the base url to that address in admin -> general configuration.
