Workflow for viewing new comments on cards

I have transitioned across from Trello which had an alert symbol appear in the bottom of a card that indicated new unread comments.  This made it very easy to work through the board reviewing comments.

I am trying to understand a similar workflow in Jira. I have devs posting comments on cards which I like to review each day when I log on.

- The dashboard shows recent activity (comments etc) but doesn't seem to allow you to dismiss or delete each of one (as a way of checking them off after you have viewed/addressed them).

- The notifications function seems to indicate new items to view, only if you are mentioned in a comment.

1) Is there a better workflow for working your way through new comments,

2) Do I just need to have everyone start commenting me in to every comment so it appears in my Notifications?

Let me try to properly address your questions so you can define which would be the best option to achieve your need:

1) Is there a better workflow for working your way through new comments

Using the Activity Stream Gadget in your JIRA Dashboards will display all the recent comments/updates of developers in the order and you want, where you can even separate it per project or any other parameter.

However, you can not remove/hide these comments once you see them, as you mentioned. This statement drives us for your second question:

2) Do I just need to have everyone start commenting me in to every comment so it appears in my Notifications?

The short answer to this question is No. It's not required that everyone should mention your user so you can receive notifications.

In fact, you can configure yourself to receive notifications for the project issues by following the steps below:

- Navigate to the Project > Project Settings > Notifications

- Click on Actions > Edit notifications > Add your user in the Issue Commented notification

Additionally, you can choose which issues you would like to receive updates or not by adding yourself as a watcher to it, in case you don't want to receive it for every single issue.

That been said, I personally think the best way to keep tracking developer comments in the way you want would be by configuring your user to receive notifications in the Notification Schemes.
