I've already used the trial for Portfolio for Jira, but it was more complicated than I had anticipated for what we'd be using it for. I'm looking for something as simple as what Asana offers to build out our projects visually and easily manipulate.

I do not have any insights as to whether or not Jira Core might get a roadmapping feature any time soon.
However in the Jira Software Cloud, the next generation projects are starting to roll out a roadmapping feature that works a bit differently than the one in Portfolio. More details on this can be found in the documentation https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirasoftwarecloud/roadmap-957979308.html
