We are about to purchase licenses to implement both JIRA core and confluence for our company. We plan to deploy a test/staging server and production server instances of JIRA Core connected to a CI (TBD) to allow development and test of changes and the environment without affecting the production server in realtime until the image is 'pushed' to the production instance using the CI.
In this kind of setup do we need separate licenses for each server? i.e. 1 for the Production and 1 for the test/staging? Can we use the same credentials without effecting license on both? or is there a developer version of the credentials that can be used on the staging server without effecting license?
You need two licences, one for JIRA and one for Confluence.
Assuming you are buying commercial licences (not open source, or academic), then you get a "developer" licence as well. This should be used for your test servers (all of them can use it, test, staging, UAT etc) and you can use it for migrations, disaster recovery and development.
You can use the same credentials for all the systems, and I'd actually recommend that over having separate credentials in most cases!
