What is the impact if profield gadgets are removed

Reetesh Kumar November 13, 2015

We are upgrading JIRA from version 6.3.12 to version 6.4.12 and "Profields - Project Custom Fields" from version 4.1.1 to version 4.3.0.

We have a requirement that we will remove the profield gadgets. We want to know the impact of removal of these gadgets.
Can you please let us know that what will be the impact of if we remove the profield gadgets.

We have following couple of questions on this also:

1. Which users use the Profields gadgets today, can we find this out?
2. What means to do we have to communicate in the tool, e.g. can we craft a message inside the gadget picker dialogue or in the dashboard itself, where the profield gadget is no longer displayed?

Please suggest.

Thanks,
Reetesh

Simple answer is that you won't have any project level fields any more (other than the off-the-shelf ones)

We don't know the full impacts as we don't know if you're doing anything with them beyond "adding fields to projects".  The data for them will remain in the database, but you won't be able to use it (read or write)

On your questions

  1.  All your users use them - they are fields that appear on a project header, so everyone who can see a project could be "using" them
  2. No, the gadget doesn't seem to contain anything like that.  Unless you added a new project field and filled it in for every project with "this thing is going away"
