User has assigned issues, however these don't show up in issue search result

Deleted user June 12, 2016

Hello,

On our JIRA v4.4.4 we have an user I'd need to delete, but the system refuses to complete the action saying that the user has 11 assigned issues. However, when I click on the "11 assigned issues" link, the issue search (assignee = jdoe ORDER BY priority ASC) returns no results.

I've now deactivated the user instead of deleting it, as suggested by Atlassian, but I'm curious nonetheless to know where this "11" value comes from.

The usual culprit is that your account does not have the permission to see the 11 issues - blocked by the permissions scheme or security scheme.

If that's not it, then the next suspect is a broken index.  (Although it might be worth running a re-index first, as it's an easy one to rule out - to deal with the permissions, you're going to have to go digging through config and schemes)
