Send notification to reporter when issue closed automatically

How is it possible to make sure the reporter of an issue receives a notification when it is closed, via an automatic process, such as a Bitbucket merge?

By default, JIRA seems to think that the automatic closure is the reporters 'own action', and therefore doesn't send them a notification (assuming they have the default notification settings)...

Hey Andy,

                  Default Notification Scheme will send notification when JIRA issue is closed.

Does this not work for you ?

No, it doesn't, and that's the point - JIRA seems to think that because the 'close' event is an automatic action, that it must be triggered by the reporter, and therefore the 'don't send emails for own actions' setting in most user's accounts means they never receive an email.

I concur that this is not working for us either, and it's very frustrating!
