Permissions Question

Michael Gacnik April 3, 2016

Is there a way that i can set a group to be able to only assign themselves to issues that are currently unassigned and no others? I dont want this group to be able to edit others assigned issues or assign issues to other users. My plan is for this group to be able to pick up their own work assignments from a list of open (unassigned) issues.

I think you need to do this:

  • Give that group "Assignable User" permission but not "Assign Issues" permission
  • Give that group "Transition Issue" permission
  • Create a "Start Work" Workflow transition from "open" to "in progress" (or whatever)
  • On that transition add the "Assign to Current User" post function
  • If you have a "stop work" transition, it should probably clear the assignee

Now a user can assign issues to themselves but only by clicking "Start Work".

Some other things to consider:

  • you can put a condition on the transition if you want to test it is unassigned
  • You can create a transition that loops back to the same status if you just want the side effect!
