New issue type doesn't have story points

Jason Ried April 29, 2016

Hi,

Our JIRA project is all setup and we need an additional issues type, names Content.

The problem we have is that Content has no story points, because it's not an epic or a story, but a new type.

How can we get story points added to this type?

To give some background on why we need it:

  • We have a single project and board, which has three different workflows.
  • Workflows depend on the issue type:
    • QA workflow handles Bug issue types
    • Agile workflow handles Epic, Story & Task issue types
    • Content workflow handles Content issue types
  • Content is a separate workflow as we have a different approvals process for that work.
  • This works as a workflow system but the major problem is that there are no story points attached, which ruins the entire setup / team management structure.

Is there a way to attach story points or is there an alternative which can achieve the same as the above?

thanks,

Jason

It's usually the field "context".  As an admin, go to Admin -> custom fields and look for Story points.  You will probably see that it is valid for only a couple of issue types.  Hit configure and change the context so that it is valid for "Content" as well.

You may need to add it to the screens for "content" as well, if you've set up separate ones for them.
